
ISA - TONGJI UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
In a bid to further strengthen the existing cooperation with the International Seabed Authority, China has granted funding to support between 3 - 5 candidates from developing countries in the field of marine sciences to pursue Masters or Doctorate degrees in Marine Science at the Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
Tongji University, which is one of the leading universities in China, has been allocated a quota of 30 places under the Chinese Government Scholarship Programme to independently recruit master’s and doctorate degree candidates. Under the terms of the arrangement with the Authority, three to five such places will be made available to candidates to be jointly selected by the Authority and Tongji University (School of Ocean and Earth Science).
Applicants for the Masters degrees under the ISA-Tongji University scholarships programme must have a bachelor’s degree in geology, chemistry or biology, must be under the age of 35. Applications for the Doctoral degrees must also have a Masters degree in geology, chemistry or biology and must be under the age of 40. Applicants must be nationals of developing countries.
Application deadlines have now been extended to 31 January 2011 and must be submitted through the Authority. The Authority will compile a list of all qualified applicants, from which a shortlist will be drawn up on the basis of the qualification standards and admission requirements agreed with Tongji University. The shortlist will be submitted to Tongji University, whereupon Tongji University will make the final selection of the successful candidates.

E. Application Procedures
ALL applications MUST be submitted to the International Seabed Authority. The Authority will then compile a shortlist of the applications and then forward to Tongji University for the selection of the final successful candidates.
