Nauru to Seek Advisory Opinion through ISA Council at 16th Session

Nauru has submitted a proposal for Council to seek an advisory opinion from the Seabed Disputes Chamber of the International Tribunal to the Law of the Sea pursuant to article 191 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on matters relating to sponsoring State liability and responsibility.
A Note Verbale advising the communication from Nauru has been sent to all members and observers of the Authority in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Council on 18 January 2010.
The proposal (ISBA/16/C/6) is included in the Provisional Agenda (ISBA/16/C/L.1/Rev.1) of the Council for the 16th Session which will be held from 26 April to 7 May 2010.
The Assembly and Council will hold their first meetings on Tuesday 27 April 2010. The Finance Committee commences its meetings on 26 April and the Legal and Technical Commission commence its meetings one week prior to the main session of the Authority, from 19 to 23 April 2009.The 16th Session is scheduled for 27 April to 7 May at the Authority's headquarters in Kingston.
