La Autoridad Internacional de los Fondos Marinos organizó un seminario sobre las consideraciones tecnológicas y económicas de la explotación minera de cortezas de ferromanganeso con alto contenido de cobalto y sulfuros polimetálicos de la zona internacional de los fondos marinos (“la Zona”) que se celebró en Kingston (Jamaica) del 31 de julio al 4 de agosto de 2006.
En el documento de antecedentes figuran los pasajes pertinentes de las ponencias presentadas en el seminario relativos a los lugares donde se encuentran cortezas y yacimientos de ferromanganeso con alto contenido de cobalto, y mapas pertinentes de prospección y exploración elaborados a partir de información procedente del depósito central de datos de la Autoridad.
