Pursuant to its contract for exploration for polymetallic nodules, signed with the International Seabed Authority (ISA) on 18 October 2019, Beijing Pioneer Hi-tech. Development Corporation Ltd. (BPC) is offering five (5) Fellowship placements to candidates from a developing State in 2024.

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES

BPC has partnered with a renowned Chinese university, to systematically design a fellowship training course. The training is delivered through a combination of general courses, practical exercises, and experience-based lectures, aiming to enhance the participants’ comprehensive understanding of the entire chain of deep-sea resource exploration and development. The program includes 8 general courses covering topics such as physical oceanography, marine geology, biological ecology, marine chemistry, marine engineering technology, and marine law, achieving full coverage of general knowledge. Additionally, it integrates lab-based practical and analytical courses tailored for participants, such as marine data analysis, biological experiment operations, and bioinformatics. Participants can engage in hands-on practice and exercises.

The training includes 12 experience-based lectures, focused on green technology and research-based development. These lectures sequentially cover topics such as research and development frameworks, geological minerals, ecosystems, physical oceanography, digital mining areas, mining technology and system engineering, processing and utilization of mineral resources, as well as international regulations and hot issues. To maintain coherence in the participants’ knowledge, the general courses are matched with the lecture contents. Finally, the training also incorporates site visits to provide participants with a deeper understanding of marine science and engineering equipment.
