The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) shared on Friday 1 October 2021 with all its Members and Observers the indicative programme of work and the information note on matters for consideration by the ISA Council during the resumed 26th session scheduled to take place on 6-10 December 2021.

As the reduced format of the meeting imposed by COVID-19 related protocols will not allow for the resumption of negotiations on the text of the Draft Regulation on Exploitation of Mineral Resources in the Area, the ISA Council will focus its attention on taking decisions on pending items of its agenda which require action before the end of the 26th session. More specifically, this includes issues relating to the election of members of the Legal and Technical Commission, applications for extension of exploration contracts, consideration of a proposed roadmap and schedule of meetings of the Council in 2022 and 2023, and reports on matters relating to the Enterprise, among other topics.

An information note on the preliminary modalities for in-person meetings of both the ISA Council and the ISA Assembly (13-15 December 2021) was also circulated.

The revised agenda, the indicative programme of work, the information notes and all official documents prepared for the upcoming meetings have been placed on the ISA website.
