ISA member states

The Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) is pleased to announce that several ISA Member States and contractors have recently made contributions totaling USD122,649 to the voluntary trust funds of ISA.

The governments of The Netherlands and the United Kingdom have made contributions of USD26,449 and USD10,000, respectively, to the voluntary trust fund for the members of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) and the Finance Committee (FC) of ISA.  ISA contractors Global Sea Mineral Resources NV (Belgium), Tonga Offshore Mining Limited (Tonga), Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. (Nauru) and Marawa Research and Exploration Ltd. (Kiribati) also made contributions to the fund of USD6,000 each. The trust fund for the members of the LTC and FC was established in 2002 and covers the costs of participation of members of the LTC and FC from developing countries.

Additionally, the governments of France and the United Kingdom made contributions of USD22,200 and USD10,000, respectively, to the trust fund for the members of the Council. The trust fund for the members of the Council was created in 2017 to cover the costs of participation of members of the Council from developing countries.

The governments of the United Kingdom and Malta also contributed USD10,000 and USD11,000, respectively, to the trust fund for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Enterprise. The trust fund for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the Enterprise was created in 2019 to provide the requisite funds to support the work of the Special Representative. 

The government of Mexico contributed USD10,000 to the ISA Endowment Fund for Marine Scientific Research.

“I am very grateful to all contributors for supporting the voluntary trust funds, which are essential to ensuring the full and effective representation of developing countries in the work of ISA,” said the Secretary-General of ISA, H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge.

The Secretary-General also acknowledged, with appreciation, additional financial support received from the government of France (USD33,580), the government of the Principality of Monaco (USD22,306) and the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea (USD8,350) to several current capacity development initiatives implemented by ISA.

Des États membres et des contractants de l’AIFM contribuent aux fonds d’affectation spéciale volontaires de l’AIFM

Le Secrétaire général de l’Autorité internationale des fonds marins (AIFM) est heureux d’annoncer que plusieurs États membres et contractants de l’AIFM ont récemment versé des contributions d’un montant total de 122 649 USD aux fonds d’affectation spéciale volontaires de l’AIFM.

Les gouvernements des Pays-Bas et du Royaume-Uni ont versé des contributions de 26 449 USD et 10 000 USD, respectivement, au fonds d’affectation spéciale volontaire pour les membres de la Commission juridique et technique (CJT) et de la Commission des finances (CF) de l’AIFM.  Les contractants de l’AIFM Global Sea Mineral Resources NV (Belgique), Tonga Offshore Mining Limited (Tonga), Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. (Nauru) et Marawa Research and Exploration Ltd. (Kiribati) ont également versé au fonds des contributions de 6 000 USD chacun. Le fonds d’affectation spéciale pour les membres de la CJT et de la CF a été créé en 2002 et couvre les frais de participation des membres de la CJT et de la CF appartenant à des pays en développement.

En outre, les gouvernements de la France et du Royaume-Uni ont versé respectivement 22 200 USD et 10 000 USD au fonds d’affectation spéciale pour les membres du Conseil. Le fonds d’affectation spéciale pour les membres du Conseil a été créé en 2017 pour couvrir les frais de participation des membres du Conseil appartenant à des pays en développement.

Les gouvernements du Royaume-Uni et de Malte ont également versé 10 000 USD et 11 000 USD, respectivement, au fonds d’affectation spéciale pour le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général pour l’Entreprise. Le fonds d’affectation spéciale pour le Représentant spécial du Secrétaire général pour l’Entreprise a été créé en 2019 afin de fournir les fonds nécessaires pour soutenir le travail du Représentant spécial. 

Le gouvernement du Mexique a versé 10 000 USD au Fonds de dotation de l’AIFM pour la recherche scientifique marine.

« Je suis très reconnaissant à tous les contributeurs pour leur soutien aux fonds d’affectation spéciale volontaires, qui sont essentiels pour assurer la représentation pleine et efficace des pays en développement dans le travail de l’AIFM », a déclaré le Secrétaire général de l’AIFM, SEM Michael W. Lodge.

Le Secrétaire général a également reconnu, avec satisfaction, le soutien financier additionnel reçu du gouvernement français (33 580 USD), du gouvernement de la Principauté de Monaco (22 306 USD) et de l’Institut national de la biodiversité marine de Corée (8 350 USD) à plusieurs initiatives de développement des capacités en cours mises en œuvre par l’AIFM.
