Applications are open until 19 February 05 March New Deadline Extension for candidates from developing States members of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) for three placements sponsored by Global Sea Mineral Resources NV (GSR), in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contracts for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

ISA is calling for qualified candidates for three distinct training programmes:

A fellowship for a Master’s degree Ocean & Lakes

A two-year fellowship for a Master’s degree of Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management jointly organized by the Faculty of Science of the Free University of Brussels, Antwerp University and Ghent University, and commencing September 2021 with completion in June 2023. The Programme adopts a multidisciplinary approach integrating physical, chemical, geological, ecological and societal aspects and including nature conservation and sustainable development.

A fellowship for a Master’s EMerald Programme

A two-year fellowship for an EMerald Master Programme commencing September 2021 with completion in June 2023 organised by four European Universities: University of Liège (ULiège), University of Lorraine (UL), Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF). The programme is designed to focus on the following aspects: resources engineering, resource characterisation, processing, modelling and management.

A professional course on dredging technologies

Participation in a two-week course on dredging technologies organized by the Antwerp Port Training Center in Antwerp, Belgium on 7‐18 June 2021. The course will give the nominee a serious introduction to the latest high‐tech state‐of-the‐art dredging technologies and equipment. The dredging technologies and corresponding environmental management techniques from the dredging industry will be indispensable knowledge leading towards sustainable deep-sea mining practices.

One of the Voluntary Commitments made by the ISA at the UN Ocean Conference 2017 was “Enhancing the role of women in marine scientific research through capacity building” – we therefore strongly encourage suitably qualified females to apply for these training opportunities.
