The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) is seeking a consultant to assist ISA in designing a project framework for the establishment of a pilot demonstration project for long-term ocean observations in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone based on an assessment of existing environmental baseline data and established ocean observing capabilities, with a focus on areas of particular environmental interest.  

Applicants should have experience with international networks, initiatives or projects on deep-sea ocean observation. Familiarity with DeepData and its functionalities is desired.  

The successful consultant will: 

  1. Identify tools and data requirements to enhance the collection, sharing and use of data for environmental assessment in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone   
  2. Facilitate the development of synergies among existing long-term ocean observation frameworks and exploration activities in the central Pacific Ocean region 
  3. Foster technological innovation and best practices for ocean observation in deep waters in the context of ISA  
  4. Identify opportunities for capacity development and transfer of marine technology for sustained deep ocean observations and synergies within existing ISA initiatives 
  5. Establish a project framework to allow for the implementation of the four objectives described above and propose a roadmap for resource mobilization and partnership engagement.
