2019

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation pursuant to its contract for the exploration for polymetallic sulphides with the Authority is offering two (2) at-sea onboard training places for candidates from developing States. 

The traineeship will be conducted onboard the R/V “Professor Logatchev” while on expedition to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and will consist of practical and theoretical courses. Trainees will participate in geological and geophysical work and participate in course of lectures pertaining to the "Study and development of mineral resources of the oceans."

Training will be conducted from December 2019 to February 2020 as follows: Embarkation will be carried out in one of the ports of the Caribbean between 15 and 20 December 2019; while disembarkation will be in Las Palmas (Canary Islands) or in Ponta Delgada (Azores) between 10 and 15 February 2020.

In addition to the direct cost of training, the Contractor undertakes to cover the following costs: ♦ transportation of trainees from their place of residence to the port of embarkation and from the port of disembarkation to their place of residence; ♦ accommodation and meals during the internships on board the R/V “Professor Logatchev”.

Candidates must meet the following requirements: 

  1. Education: education or work experience preferably in the field of marine geological/geophysical or marine engineering research;

  2. Language: excellent knowledge of English is required.

1.  Theoretical and At-Sea Training 2017

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation under its contract with the International Seabed Authority, for the exploration for polymetallic sulphides, is offering two (2) training places for candidates from developing States. The training course is divided into two stages:

a) Part 1: theoretical course at St Petersburg State University (SPSU) for approximately two weeks in November 2017. The curriculum will include:

  • The basics of oceanology and marine ecology;
  • The basics of marine geology and geophysics;
  • Methods used for the prospecting and exploration of marine minerals;  and
  • Technical means and prospects for mining

(b) Part 2: at-sea training, a scientific cruise on board the R/V “PROFESSOR LAGACHEV” in the area of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Duration: six weeks, projected cruise date: November 2017 - January 2018

  • Trainees will participate in practical geological work.

In addition to the direct cost of training, the Contractor undertakes to cover the following costs: ♦ travel to and from Saint Petersburg; ♦ room and board in Saint Petersburg; ♦ travel to and from the research vessel’s port; ♦ room and board on the vessel during the scientific cruise.

Candidates must meet the following requirements: 

  1. Education: education or work experience preferably in the field of marine geological research and technical engineering;
  2. Language: excellent knowledge of English is required, basic knowledge of Russian is desirable;

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, under its contract with the International Seabed Authority for the exploration for cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts, is offering three (3) training places for candidates from developing States. The training course is divided into two stages:

a) Part 1: theoretical course at Saint Petersburg State University (SPSU) for 15 days during the fourth quarter 2017 (approximately in October-November). The curriculum will include:

  • Geology and mineral resources of the international seabed area;
  • Mineral deposits of the international seabed area including cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts; and
  • Methods and technology required in exploration for cobalt-rich ferromanganese crusts

(b) Part 2: at-sea training, a scientific cruise on board the Research Vessel “GELENDZHIK” in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone of the Pacific Ocean for approximately 60 days during October 2017. Trainees will participate in practical geological work.

In addition to the direct cost of training, the Contractor undertakes to cover costs: ♦ travel to and from Saint Petersburg; ♦ room and board in Saint Petersburg; ♦ travel to and from the research vessel’s port; ♦) room and board on the vessel during the scientific cruise.

  2. Language: excellent knowledge of English is a must, basic knowledge of Russian is desirable.
