ISA and Republic of Korea sign cooperation agreement on Deep-Sea Biobank

Kingston, Jamaica – 1 May 2025 – The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is pleased to announce the signing of a Letter of Cooperation with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (MOF-ROK) in support of the ISA Deep-Sea Biobank initiative, on the margins of the 10th Our Ocean Conference held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 28 to 30 April 2025.

ISA-China Joint Training and Research Centre concludes third knowledge transfer workshop on advancing marine spatial planning

Qingdao, China – 29 April 2025 – The International Seabed Authority (ISA) and the Government of China successfully concluded the third knowledge transfer workshop organized under the auspices of the ISA-China Joint Training and Research Centre (ISA-China JTRC), held in Qingdao, China, from 23 to 27 April 2025. The workshop focused on advancing marine spatial planning in areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) to support sustainable deep-sea stewardship.

The Council of the International Seabed Authority opens the first part of its thirtieth session

Kingston, Jamaica— The Council of the International Seabed Authority (the Authority) commenced the first part of its thirtieth session on Monday, 17 March 2025, marking the start of two weeks of intensive discussions aimed at advancing the draft regulations for the exploitation of mineral resources in the international seabed area (the Area). The meetings will conclude on 28 March 2025.

Call for taxonomy projects to describe deep-sea species

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (the Authority) is inviting taxonomic research project proposals from individuals from developing Member States of the Authority under its “One Thousand Reasons” campaign.
