On Tuesday, 11 January 2017, Mrs. Taous Achab of the Embassy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, presented her credentials as the Permanent Representative to the International Seabed Authority to the Secretary-General, Mr. Michael W. Lodge.

Mrs. Taous Achab joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Algeria in 1976 and was appointed as Permanent Representative to the International Seabed Authority on 18 September 2016.

Mrs. Achab has served her country in France, Germany and Spain. She is familiar with the Caribbean region as she spent five years in Cuba as Counselor/Deputy Head of Mission.

The Secretary-General congratulated Algeria on establishing a Permanent Mission to the Authority, noting that Algeria had participated in the Assembly in 2016 and had also been elected to the Council for the period 2017-2020. He encouraged all member States that had not already done so to establish Permanent Missions in Jamaica and to participate fully in the work of the Authority.
