Secretary-General and Margo Dieye

Today, the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) Mr. Michael W. Lodge welcomed H.E. Margo Deiye, as the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Nauru to ISA.

Ambassador Deiye has served as a member of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Nauru to the United Nations since 2012, where she has successfully championed Small Island Developing States’ (SIDS) issues both at the international and regional levels.

Receiving H.E. Deiye’s official credentials in Kingston today, Mr. Lodge highlighted the important contribution Nauru has made to the work of ISA, noting that Nauru was the first Small Island Developing State to sponsor a deep-sea exploration contract in the international seabed area in 2011.

“Nauru has been an active and valuable member of ISA since it was established 25 years ago, and we look forward to continuing our ongoing and productive relationship under H.E Deiye’s leadership.”

Ms. Deiye is a Master’s graduate of the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. She also held the position of Coastal Fisheries Manager from 2007 to 2012, and Senior Coastal Fisheries Officer from 2001 to 2007.
