Kingston, Jamaica – 24 July 2024 – The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) welcomes six new signatories of the Global Call for Action to ensure the stewardship of the Area and its resources for the benefit of all humanity through deep-sea science, technology and innovation. The Call for Action was recently signed by Ghana, India and Jamaica, as well as by Blue Minerals Jamaica Limited (BMJ), the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization (IOM) and the Kobe Ocean-Bottom Exploration Centre (KOBEC).
ISA Council resumes work under Part II of the 29th session
Kingston, Jamaica, 15 July 2024 — The Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) resumed its discussions today under Part II of the 29th session. The meetings of the Council are set to continue until 26 July 2024 with several key agenda items. The primary focus will be on advancing negotiations on the draft regulations for the exploitation of mineral resources in the Area, with the aim of finalizing the first reading of the consolidated text.

ISA hosts the first in-person meeting of international experts selected to develop environmental threshold values for deep-seabed mining
Kingston, Jamaica – 28 June 2024 – The International Seabed Authority (ISA) is currently hosting the first in-person meeting of the Intersessional Expert Group (IEG) established by the Council for developing binding environmental threshold values at its headquarters in Kingston, Jamaica. This three-day workshop held between 27 and 29 June 2024 is part of an ongoing process for the development of standards and guidelines mandated by the Council and led by the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC). The IEG comprises 30 experts from 19 different countries, including eight developing States.
