On World Oceans Day 2023, ISA celebrates the advancement of deep-sea research and the contribution of women scientists

Celebrating World Oceans Day on 8 June 2023, the Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) organized a series of events highlighting the role of marine scientific research in advancing the global understanding of deep-sea ecosystems and enabling the sustainable management of the Area and its resources, including concrete actions to promote empowerment and leadership of women scientists in deep-sea research.

On the occasion of World Oceans Day 2023, the International Seabed Authority (ISA), the Office of the High Representative of the United Nations for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and partners of the Women in Deep-Sea Research project join hands to launch the S.H.E. (“See Her Exceed”) Mentoring Programme in deep-sea research.

ISA Secretary-General meets with Canadian ministers and a deputy minister to discuss status of exploitation regulations and areas of cooperation

From 29 May to 1 June 2023, the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), H.E. Mr. Michael W. Lodge, undertook a visit to Canada where he met with the Honourable Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and Mr. David Morrison, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On 26 May 2023, the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) confirmed the selection of five (5) candidates for training opportunities provided by Beijing Pioneer Hi-tech. Development Corporation Ltd. (BPC) in accordance with its obligations under its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules with ISA.

Call for proposals for a consultant to assess ISA’s eligibility for Official Development Assistance (ODA) contributions to support sustainable ocean economy in developing countries

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) is accepting proposals for a consultant with requisite experience to assess ISA’s eligibility for Official Development Assistance (ODA) contributions, and to support ISA’s preparation for the evaluation process by the members of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
